Where Downtown Meets Over the Rhine

Passed the next set of “greenlights”…

As a business owner in OTR I look forward to the day I see the Cincinnati Streetcar coming across 12th street from Main towards Elm.  As a Cincinnatian I look forward to that day because it’s the day when we can say “Look!! We have completed a forward looking project to prepare our city for the future.  We have invested in the future of our urban core and our city.”

Below is an email sent by our City Manager Mr Milton Dohoney.  He has worked very hard to make this project a reality.

Dear Friends:

I am pleased to announce that the Cincinnati Streetcar project has passed the next set of “greenlights” as the project moves forward.  The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) found the Cincinnati streetcar will have no significant environmental impact along the route.  In addition, the City and the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA), which operates Metro buses, also reached an agreement for the local transit agency to receive all federal monies for the project.

The “finding of no significant impact” (FONSI) from the FTA means the streetcar will not have a negative impact on the people or buildings along the route.  The FONSI clears the way for the streetcar project to use the $29 million of federal money already allocated.  It also allows the project team to begin the next steps in bidding out work for the general contractors and the cars themselves.

Additional information is included in the attached press release.  You can also find more information at www.cincinnatistreetcar.com.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Milton
